Two or three times a year I offer a themed studio shoot to allow a makeup artist to showcase their work. This isn’t about bridal makeup it’s about creating something bold for your portfolio that makes a colorful statement and gets your clients talking. There are some examples from prior MUA choice shoots in my portrait gallery.

Here’s how they work…
We work together to come up with a theme. I have no preconceived ideas of what the theme should be and since this is a makeup artist’s choice, almost anything goes. Think portfolio showcase, not everyday makeup.

The makeup artist will provide two or three willing models. They don’t have to be experienced and can be existing clients, prospective clients, anybody that wants a day of makeup fun. For this to make sense for my portfolio, the models must be female, over 18 and be willing to sign a model release. Usually we make up and photograph each model twice for different looks. It’s a lot of work and a lot of fun.

While makeup is generally a facial art, a creative artist might want to do something more adventurous and move this from a portrait shoot to something with a more boudoir style.

And the trade…
Each participant, MUA or model, will get three full resolution retouched digital images for each look for non-commercial use in print or on the web at no charge and I would be able to use the pictures in the gallery on my web site. It allows me to keep my galleries fresh and helps me find new talent for future projects.
